# Make it yours

> Every way to shape a pod to your work, from installing a template to writing your own app, and who does each.

URL: https://doc.synap.live/docs/customize · Last reviewed against the code: 2026-11-03

A pod starts with general kinds of records (people, companies, tasks, notes and so on). Everything else is added, and
almost all of it is configuration stored in the pod, not code: a workspace (a space in the apps), a kind, a field, a view, an automation. So
you, your agent and a template can all change it through the same doors, under the same review.

Three kinds of actor make these changes:

- **You, in an app**: the Browser app on the desktop, or the marketplace on [synap.live](https://www.synap.live/marketplace).
- **Your agent, through MCP**: you ask in plain language, and the structural changes it makes become proposals
(requests in the apps) you approve.
- **Code**: the `synap` CLI, a script on the Hub REST API, or an app on the SDK.

## The extension points

Ordered from no code to code.

| You want to… | What it changes | Who does it |
|---|---|---|
| [Install a space from a template](/docs/customize/spaces-and-templates) | Adds a whole domain (a CRM, a content studio, finance): its kinds, fields, views, playbooks (templates in the apps) and automations | You in the Browser app or on synap.live, the CLI, or your agent |
| [Add kinds, roles and fields](/docs/customize/kinds-and-fields) | Your data model: a new kind of record, a role an existing record can play, a field, a lifecycle | Your agent through MCP, or a template |
| Add a [view](/docs/concepts/views) | How a set of records is shown (board, table, calendar, graph…). The records do not move | Your agent (`synap_create_view`), the CLI (`synap view create`), or a template |
| [Install from the marketplace](/docs/customize/marketplace) | Adds packages others published: workspaces, capabilities, skills, automations, views, cards | You in an app, the CLI, or your agent |
| [Add capabilities](/docs/customize/capabilities) | The tools your agents can call, such as an email or calendar account | You, the CLI, or your agent |
| [Automate with playbooks and automations](/docs/customize/automations-and-playbooks) | Repeatable work: a shape of session (a job in the apps) you can run again, bound to a trigger | You, the CLI, or your agent |
| [Import your data](/docs/customize/import) | Brings records from other tools into your pod | You or the CLI |
| [Run your own code](/docs/customize/runnable-code) | Code that runs with your pod, such as a card that renders a record your way | Code |
| Build your own [app or website](/docs/build) | A product of your own on top of your pod, through the SDK or the Hub REST API | Code |
| Bring [your own agent](/docs/agents) | Which AI works on your pod, with its own key and identity | You, with `synap connect` or `synap agents add` |

## Rules that hold for every extension

- **Agents propose structural changes.** An agent defining a kind or a role, creating a workspace, playbook,
automation or card, or installing a package always files a proposal you approve, and no rule can change that.
Adding a field is a proposal by default. Plain record creates and edits are different: by default they apply
directly, with Undo. A person defining a kind or creating a workspace is not affected, but retiring a field or
declaring a lifecycle is a proposal for anyone. See
  [Validation policy](/docs/concepts/validation-policy).
- **One workspace per domain.** A domain is installed once; a project is a filter across workspaces, never a second
copy of one. See [Spaces and templates](/docs/customize/spaces-and-templates#one-space-per-domain).
- **Installing adds.** A package is refused when it would overwrite something your pod already has under the same
  name. See [Marketplace listing policy](/docs/community/marketplace-policy).
- **Records stay put.** A view is a projection and a workspace is a lens: neither copies your records.
